Welcome to Slap's BBQ, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Kansas City, KS. Located at 553 Central Ave, this vibrant eatery has quickly established itself as a must-visit destination for BBQ enthusiasts and casual diners alike. With its focus on quality and flavor, Slap's BBQ combines traditional barbecue techniques with an inviting atmosphere, perfect for indulging in mouthwatering dishes.
The star of the menu? Their renowned ribs. Customers rave about their burnt ends, a decadent treat that many describe as "phenomenal." If you’re not sure what to order, the combo platter is a fantastic way to sample various meats, including pulled pork and brisket, both of which shine on the menu.
Aside from the meat, the sides enhance the BBQ experience. Diners appreciate the sweet and savory beans and the creamy mac & cheese, which add a delightful complement to the main courses. And for those looking to level up their meal, the jalapeno cheddar sausage is a popular side, though some prefer it alongside the main event rather than as the centerpiece.
But what truly sets Slap's BBQ apart isn’t just the stellar food. The lively atmosphere, supported by a friendly staff and efficient service, allows for a seamless dining experience. On beautiful days, the rooftop patio offers stunning views of the Kansas City skyline, making it an ideal spot to enjoy your meal outside. During peak hours, the bustling vibe only adds to the excitement, as patrons eagerly await their orders amidst the aroma of expertly smoked meats.
As temperatures rise, finding a seat indoors can get tricky, but the quick service ensures that your delicious meal is never far away. With rave reviews from locals and visitors alike, it’s clear that Slap's BBQ isn't just a dining spot—it's an experience that captures the essence of Kansas City’s barbecue culture. “ Definitely a must try place for BBQ in KC. The burnt ends were phenomenal. The turkey wasn't dry at all and had really great flavor. The Beans were sweet but delicious. The pulled pork and Mac & cheese were both decent/solid but nothing to rave about. The additional jalapeno cheddar sausage that we ordered was a great addition as a side, but I probably wouldn't order that as a main meat, it was really great as a side. I wish I had tried the ribs, but that is for next time. It was fairly busy during the lunch rush, but the line moved along well. There was nice weather so the outside seating was being utilized, had the weather not been nice it probably would have been hard to get an indoor seat. Parking could be a challenge during their busiest times. I highly recommend checking Slaps out over somewhere like Jack Stacks. I've tried most of the big name BBQ in KC and Slaps has easily made it into my top 5 if not top 3. ”
“ Had a great meal at Slaps! Got the ribs, pulled pork, brisket and burnt ends. The ribs were the star of the show. Meaty, smokey and tender! I really like the burnt ends and the pulled pork. Sauces were good.too, but I really didn't need them cuz the meat was so good. Next time you're in KC stop by and get Slapped! ”
“ Slaps BBQ in Kansas City, Kansas is a well-known and popular barbeque spot in the Kansas City metro! It is known for its juicy and tender meat selections and tasty sides. This spot is wonderful to visit on sunny days because of it's rooftop patio. From the top patio, you have a great view of the KC skyline in the background. You order at the main counter right when you walk in and the food comes out very quick. Make sure to try the combo platter to taste a little bit of everything! ”
“ After so many reviews and people having this in their number 1 and 2 spots I had to try it out. I have to say I m not disappointed, had to be one of my top 2 Bbq places in KC. I came for lunch and got the Ribs and burnt ends with a 1/4 lb of brisket. Man I was so full but had to eat it all because it would have been a sin not to. Ribs were on point and brisket was delicious. Let’s not forget the burnt ends wow!!! Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in KC. ”
“ Real Kansas City BBQ! It’s a fact that everyone has their favorite BBQ joint. Keeping that in mind I enjoyed Slaps pulled pork, ribs, hot sausages, and crispy onion rings. A definite family atmosphere. ”
“ The Mike Johnson sandwich was outstanding. I’m usually not a fan of pretzel buns, but this one completely won me over—soft, flavorful, and the perfect match for the smoked meats inside. We also tried the burnt ends, which have quite the reputation, and it’s well deserved—they were tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. There’s no indoor seating, and the outdoor setup is pretty basic, but honestly, the quality of the BBQ more than makes up for it. The food is the star here, and it delivers big time. I’d definitely recommend giving Slap’s your business—I know I’ll be back soon! ”
“ The first time was excellent. Had a pulled pork sandwich and Mac. Husband has burnt ends, brisket, and sausage fries and beans. With three beers spent 60. Not terrible. Beware if you don't get there early enough you may have to wait in line. (But that just shows how good it is). Some outdoor seating on ground and elevated. Great view of the downtown skyline. ”
“ Fantastic BBQ! We managed to sample a little bit of everything from the menu. Burn ends, ribs, turkey and sausages were our favorites. The Mac and cheese is great along with the baked potato casserole. Grab a beer when you walk in to drink while you wait to order. If there’s a line outside don’t let it deter you. The service is amazing and quick. You’ll order and take your food to a table. Lots of indoor and outdoor dining available. Definitely check them out!! ”
